Crime Stoppers and Real Canadian Superstore Invite Residents to BBQ in Georgetown

Crime Stoppers and Real Canadian Superstore Invite Residents to BBQ in Georgetown Crime Stoppers of Halton, in partnership with Real Canadian Superstore Georgetown, invites residents to a BBQ lunch. The rain-or-shine event will take place on Sunday, September 15, 2019, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at Real Canadian Superstore at 171 Guelph Street, Georgetown. Halton Crime Stoppers staff and volunteers will be on-site serving up a BBQ lunch and offering information on fraud prevention and how to avoid falling victim to various scams. Come on out and enjoy hamburgers ($3), sausages ($3), hot dogs ($2), and drinks ($1). All proceeds will support Crime Stoppers programs throughout Halton Region. Identity theft remains one of the largest means of fraud with losses running into the billions of dollars. Other forms of fraud include credit card, vacation and lottery prizes, technical support, and tax scams. These frauds can occur in person, by phone, mail, e-mail, text messages, or web browser. Anyone can be targeted so learning how to differentiate between legitimate and fraudulent contacts can help prevent you from becoming a victim. Nadine Clarke, Halton Crime Stoppers' Police Coordinator, acknowledged the support of Real Canadian Superstore Georgetown. "We thank Real Canadian Superstore Georgetown for their commitment to help educate our community about fraud prevention," Clarke said.
