HALTON HILLS, ON - The COVID-19 pandemic has prompted businesses everywhere to leverage technology to engage, attract and service customers. The Town is no different and subsequently the municipality has prioritized digital communications using the website, social media, e-newsletters and email to provide responsive and timely information to the public.
“These are different times,” said Mayor Rick Bonnette, “And in this changing environment, we must all adapt and recognize the importance of communicating through digital platforms to reach the most people as quickly as possible. I encourage residents to sign up for our e-newsletters, media releases and check our website frequently for new information.”
The Town’s experience over the summer demonstrated the need to adjust programming and offered modified aquatic, fitness and pickleball programs on a pre-registered basis. This process allowed the municipality to to adhere to provincial guidelines, manage physical distancing and ensure participant contact tracing.
Adapting to COVID-19 requirements is one reason why the municipality will not be printing and delivering a fall and winter Town Activity and Service Guide. “The decision to stop this bi-annual publication is supported by the need to be flexible and reduce programming should we experience a second wave of COVID-19,” said Warren Harris, Commissioner of Recreation and Parks. “I’d also note that this approach supports Council’s direction on environmental stewardship and of course, provides cost savings too.”
As the Town has entered Stage 3 of Ontario’s re-opening framework, facilities and programs are being opened in a gradual, careful and safe manner with a focus on providing opportunities to be active. Residents are encouraged to visit haltonhills.ca/register or email register@haltonhills.ca for a list of current recreational opportunities.
Note that registration dates for different program areas such as fitness and aquatics will be staggered throughout the fall season with the first phase of online registration beginning Wednesday, September 2 at 7 a.m. for adult and family fitness programs.
