Halton Hills, ON – A widespread search has resulted in the hiring of Jon Rehill as the Town’s new Fire Chief. Rehill leaves his position as Fire Chief at the City of Kitchener – a position he held since 2015. A Master’s degree along with numerous emergency management and technical fire certifications round out his education and ongoing training. Rehill began his career as a volunteer firefighter in Erieau, Ontario and joined the Cambridge Fire Department full-time in 1991, advancing through the ranks to hold the position of Deputy Fire Chief from 2012 to 2014. “Kitchener’s loss is our gain,” said Mayor Rick Bonnette. “I am confident that Jon has the skills and experience necessary to lead our team.” The hiring committee comprising staff and members of Council, was Chaired by Councillor Moya Johnson who noted that: “The interview process was as robust as can be expected for a position of this nature. I am pleased with the caliber of applicants we were able to attract and ultimately, I believe we have the right person for the job.” Acting CAO Chris Mills agreed. “Jon will be an excellent complement to the senior management team and current fire leadership. I know that the Halton Hills Fire Department will continue to thrive and meet the growing demands of our community – particularly important as we manage the impacts of COVID-19.” Jon’s first day with the Halton Hills Fire Department will be February 1.
