10 Organizations that Lift the Community UP : Acton Celebrates Volunteer Month

Local Volunteers Making Acton a Better Place to Be


ACTON, Ontario – The town of Acton has been bustling with activity this April as residents united to celebrate Volunteer Month. Acton's volunteer community is a powerful force for good, consistently working to improve the lives of those in need and fostering a sense of belonging for everyone.


According to the 2019 Canadian Index of Wellbeing (CIW) Community Wellbeing Survey conducted for the Town of Halton Hills, it was found that 55% of Halton Hills residents were actively volunteering in their community. By actively participating in local volunteer organizations and initiatives, residents of Halton Hills contribute significantly to the overall well-being and quality of life within the area.


Throughout Volunteer Month, local organizations will host special events and offer volunteer opportunities to thank volunteers and encourage more people to get involved. Some of the prominent volunteer organizations in Acton include:


Acton Foodshare


With inflation and the cost of everything on the rise, food shares and food banks have never been more needed. Addressing food insecurity within Acton and its surrounding areas, Acton Foodshare is a volunteer-driven organization providing nutritious food to families in need. They operate a food bank and partner with local businesses, schools, and churches to run food drives and other fundraising events. During Volunteer Month, consider giving your time to help sort, package, or distribute food, or organize food drives in your neighbourhood.


Links2Care


Links2Care is a multi-service organization committed to delivering vital programs and services to seniors, adults, children, and families in Acton and nearby communities. Relying heavily on volunteers, they provide essential services such as Meals on Wheels, friendly visits, respite care, and transportation assistance. Volunteer opportunities are diverse, ranging from assisting with program delivery to offering administrative support.



Acton Community Garden


The Acton Community Garden is a grassroots organization that brings people together to grow and share fresh produce. They promote environmental sustainability, community spirit, and healthy living by offering garden plots for residents and hosting gardening workshops. Volunteering with the Acton Community Garden is a fantastic way to give back while honing your gardening skills and fostering relationships with fellow residents.



Acton Scouts


The Scouts movement has been an integral part of Acton for decades. Acton Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion
