We joined the Acton Navy League Cadets, Compass Rose, at their annual Mad Hatter Tea Party this past Saturday, April 7, 2018, at the Acton Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. The event had over three hundred attendees and, between ticket sales and raffles, raised nearly five thousand dollars.
We joined attendees which included Mayor Rick Bonnette and his wife Josey in the opening and closing ceremonies, helped eat the hundreds of delicious egg, tuna and cheese sandwiches, drank the coffee and tea, ate the scones and cake and saw some old friends in the process.
“All money raised will be used to buy uniforms, trips and equipment for our cadets” said Acton Navy League Commanding Officer Lieutenant (NL) Paul Simas. “A big thank you to all who attended and we hope to see everyone again next year!”
The Canadian Navy League Cadet program was formed in 1948. According to the Acton Cadets’ website, “Cadets get to do a lot of fun, interesting activities in an environment that emphasizes teamwork. The Navy League Cadet Program is a great place to make friends and do things you wouldn't get to do anywhere else”. Cadets are between the ages of nine and twelve, meet one evening a week from September to June and participate in a program that’s developed to make young people into better citizens, leaders and team players.
