“The Walk or Run for Georgetown Hospital is historically the largest community event in support of Georgetown Hospital.” says Connor Vincent, Development Officer with the Georgetown Hospital Foundation. “With the COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing we have had to organize the event a little differently.”
This year the event will be virtual. Participants are invited to join in a virtual warm up, walk or run any 5km or 3km route and join back in for the virtual finish line. “Everyone will receive t-shirts and goodie bags like previous years and we will be doing draw prizes as well” says Vincent. The day looks like this:
9 a.m. - Virtual Warm Up & Event Kick-Off
9:10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. - Participants encouraged to Walk or Run on routes of their choice
11:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. - Virtual Finish Line Festival
12 p.m. - Event Concludes
There are several route options in Georgetown, Glen Williams and Acton, available on the website, www.GHFWALKRUN.ca if you want help planning. These routes will include photo opportunities and other fun activities.
Because the race is virtual, the organizers are increasing their social media efforts. They have created a Strava Club. Strava is a free app that will track and record your activity. They have also created the hashtag #WalkRunGH which they ask participants to use on all social media.
The goal of the event is to raise $50,000 in support of the Georgetown Hospital. Entry is just $35 for adults and $15 for children under 12. Our readers can save on online registration with the code ACTONGHF20 at checkout.
