Atom AA Twisters Earn Silver Lining at LLFHL Championship
Last weekend the Atom AA and Novice A Twisters headed to Westwood and Chesswood Arena to take part in the Lower Lakes Best of the Best Championship weekend. The Novice A team did not have a weekend that reflected their LLFHL season as they went 0-2-1 in round robin play, seeding them fourth overall heading into the bronze medal game. In the Bronze Medal game the Novice A team was down 3-2 to the North York Storm entering the third period. In the final minutes of the game, Makayla Hillock tied the game to send the Twisters to overtime with a bronze medal on the line. In the extra frame, Hillock netted the game winning goal sending the Twisters home with not only their first win of the weekend but a much deserved Bronze medal after finishing the regular season in first place in the West division. The novice A team will be in action one last time next weekend as they head to the OWHA Provincial Championships in the GTA.
The Atom AA team, who finished second in the West Division during the regular season had a strong showing in the LLFHL Championship. The Twisters took on the first place East team in game one where they earned a well deserved 3-1 win, Heading into game 2 the Twisters knew it would be challenge but they were up for the battle as the faced the 22-0-0 Stoney Creek Sabres. The Twister ended up losing game two, by a score of 2-1 but they were not out of contention to advance to the championship game yet. In a must win game three, the Twisters faced the third place team from the East Division the Peterborough Ice Kats. The Twisters came out strong defeating the Ice Kats 2-1 to earn their spot in the gold medal game.
