Two suspects have been arrested and multiple charges laid after the attempted theft of a vehicle in Georgetown.
On November 7, 2024, at 4:44 a.m. officers with the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) responded to the area of Miller Drive and Eaton Street in Georgetown after receiving reports of a vehicle theft in progress.
Upon arrival officers observed the suspect vehicle fleeing the area and a tire deflation device was successfully deployed. The vehicle continued to flee south on Ninth Line before coming to a stop at Steeles Avenue. Two suspects attempted to flee on foot but were quickly apprehended by HRPS officers.
The victim’s vehicle was not taken and there was no entry made to the home. There are no outstanding suspects and no physical injuries were reported. The suspect vehicle, a Toyota Tundra pick up truck, had been reported stolen from Durham Region a few hours prior.
Carriage of the investigation was taken over by members of the One District Criminal Investigations Bureau with assistance from the HRPS Organized Crime Unit.
As a result of the investigation a 16-year-old male resident of Markham has been charged with the following:
Theft of Motor Vehicle
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Over $5000
Possession of a Device for the Purpose of Committing Theft
Possession of Break in Tools
Person Under 19 Years Possess Cannabis
Obstruct Peace Officer
Fail to comply with Release Order (3 Counts)
The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing in Milton.
Of note, at the time of their arrest the accused was on multiple forms of release for similar criminal offences.
A 26-year-old male resident of Oshawa has been charged with the following:
Theft of Motor Vehicle
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Over $5000
Possession of a Device for the Purpose of Committing Theft
Possession of Break in Tools
Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
Flight from Peace Officer
Drive Vehicle with Cannabis in Open Baggage
The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing in Milton.
