On Saturday, July 13, car enthusiasts and community members will gather for the much-anticipated annual Cruising for Care classic car fundraiser. This event promises a fun-filled day featuring stunning classic cars, groovy tunes from HHOL Radio featuring FM108, and a delicious BBQ, with donations welcomed to support a worthy cause.
A Tradition of Community and Care
The Cruising for Care car show began on Father’s Day in 2022, developed by Bennett Village’s Philanthropy Officer and Marketing and Fundraising Committee. “The event was part of our ‘Year of Health’ fundraising campaign,” explained Jeanette Stephenson, Marketing and Communications Coordinator for Bennett Village. “Following the challenges of the pandemic, we wanted to bring the community together and raise funds for the home. This year marks our 4th event, and due to the success of our summer and fall shows in 2022, we are excited to continue this tradition.”
The event’s main objectives are to raise awareness of Bennett Centre and its vital work within the Halton Hills community. “We aim to raise funds to purchase equipment and programs for our residents that government funds do not cover,” Stephenson said.
Behind the Scenes of the Event
Organizing the car show is a significant undertaking, requiring about four months of planning and coordination by the leadership team. “It is a team effort,” noted Stephenson. However, securing volunteers and sponsors remains a challenge post-pandemic. “Finding volunteers and event sponsors is quite challenging, but we are grateful for the support we do receive, especially from returning sponsors and donors.”
Building Buzz and Participation
To attract car owners, Bennett Village collaborates with Street Classic Cruise and Halton Hills Online Radio featuring FM 108. “They help spread the word about the event to their networks,” Stephenson said. “Our social media platforms are also crucial in informing the community and generating excitement. The fact that the event is free for drivers is a great incentive.”
Local businesses and organizations are integral to the event’s success. “We are delighted to be hosted again by Georgetown Market Place mall and grateful to the new management team, Halton Management Inc., for their support,” Stephenson acknowledged. Key sponsors include Silver Fox Pharmacy, Arvan Rehab Group, Churchill McLaughlin Property Management Specialist Ltd, Hey Ray Real Estate, Lesley Bell Consulting, Momentum Financial Services, Nutra Services, Paul C. Armstrong Insurance, Bimbo Bakeries, and Gordon Food Service.
Making a Difference for Residents
The fundraiser directly benefits Bennett Village residents. “We rely on our sponsors and visitors who donate or participate in the 50/50, silent auction, raffles, and BBQ,” Stephenson explained. “All funds raised go towards supporting resident programs or purchasing essential equipment.”
Reflecting on past events, Stephenson shared, “The most memorable moments are when our Recreation staff bring residents to the show. They love seeing the classic cars and enjoying the atmosphere. It’s heartwarming to see the smiles on their faces and watch them tap along to the retro music of their youth.”
Join the Celebration
The community is invited to join the Cruising for Care classic car fundraiser on Saturday, July 13. Come enjoy a day of classic cars, music, and BBQ, all while supporting a meaningful cause. Donations are welcome and will contribute to the ongoing care and well-being of Bennett Village residents.
