Bottoms Up for Bennett Village Long Term Care

Bottoms Up for Bennett Village Long Term Care

According to their website…“Maybe you’ve heard of Bennett Village. And, if you have, you likely know that Bennett Village is an integral part of senior living in Halton Hills. We’re a charitable, non-profit organization with an aim to offer care and living options where area seniors continue to live and thrive. We first began as the Bennett Health Care Centre in 1999, founded in part through a generous legacy donation from local farmers Stewart and Lettie Bennett. Bennett Village is now comprised of the Bennett Centre Long Term Care home and The Gallery Active Living life lease building. Bennett Centre offers 66 spaces and is licensed and partially funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. The Gallery, a separate life lease building, is a great lifestyle option for residents 60+ years of age.”

In fact, “Bennett Village is the only not for profit charitable long term care home in Halton Hills” says Sheena Routcliffe, Co-Chair of the Marketing and Fundraising Committee. “Many people think it is part of the Georgetown Hospital (because they are on the same property) or that when they give to the hospital they are giving to Bennett Village but we are independent” adds Kathy Dorbeck, the other Co-Chair.

COVID has made for a difficult year for residents, however “The Bennett lost no residents to COVID and only saw two positive COVID test results.” says Routcliffe.

“We have a big goal of raising $100,000 this year” Dorbeck tells Acton UP. This year’s annual fundraising campaign will focus on a year of health supporting resident’s physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. The committee will use this money to purchase things like outdoor gazebos, stationary bikes, raised gardens, sensory carts, and additional iPads for residents.

And supporting this cause has never been easier. Sure you can go online and donate at https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/bennett-village/ or, you could participate in ‘The Final Lockdown Virtual Pub Night’. This event goes down on July 22 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets are just $65 ($69.78 with fees) which includes charcuterie for two from Uncorked on Main, a six pack of beer from Furnace Room Brewery, an online musical performance by Jamie Riley and a trivia contest with prizing sponsored by local businesses. Tickets for this event are selling well. You can get yours at https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/the-final-lockdown-virtual-pub-night-in-support-of-bennett-village-tickets-157979536045?utm_campaign=post_publish&utm_medium=email&utm_source=eventbrite&utm_content=shortLinkNewEmail

But don’t throw away those cans. Because on August 14 you can drop them off at the Bottle Drive to Support Bennett Centre Long Term Care. All returnable glass and cans will be collected from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Bennett Center circle, 1 Princess Anne Drive (at the hospital turn left to go to The Bennett Long Term Care vs. right which takes you to Emergency). So, start saving those empties and drop them off for a cause.

The Co-Chairs were also excited to share that the long term care facility has been approved for an expansion by the Ministry of Long Term Care. This will grow the number of beds from 66 to 160 and move the facility across the road, adjacent to The Gallery.

Dorbeck encourages “Bottoms up for a good cause. And know you are helping local seniors.”
