Georgetown District High School in Lockdown after Weapon Reports

Today at approximately 1:00pm Halton Regional Police tweeted... "Georgetown District High School is in lockdown after reports of a weapon being pointed inside the school. Expect a large police presence. There are no reports of any injuries at this time. Parents - pls do not attend the school. Updates to follow here. ^jh" We will update as we know more. UPdate: Gary Allen and Holy Cross Schools are also in lockdown. UPdate: Police report 2 males have been taken into custody via Twitter " We can confirm that two males have been taken into custody in relation to this incident. Our officers are working to clear GDHS at this time to ensure safety of all staff and students. Still no reports of injuries. Lockdowns at Holy Cross and Gary Allan have been LIFTED. ^jh" Update: There have been various reports of a water gun that may have sparked the police response. This has not been confirmed yet. Update: Police are currently searching GDHS to recover any weapons. Update: HRPS tweeted "The lockdown is still in place at Georgetown District High School, but information in hand suggests that the object seen was not, in fact, a handgun. We are working to clear the school and will confirm at the earliest opportunity. Still no reports of injuries. ^jh" Update: HRPS tweeted at 1:56pm "The lockdown at Georgetown District High School has been lifted. Staff/students are safe. Officers recovered the item, and we can confirm it was *not* a handgun. Accordingly, both parties have been released, and no criminal charges are pending. Media release to follow. ^jh" Update: HRPS released a police report at 2:20pm "Police Respond to Reports of a Gun at Georgetown District High School Shortly before 1:00 pm on Tuesday, March 2, 2020, the Halton Regional Police Service received a call from a staff member at Georgetown District High School after observing a male pointing what appeared to be a firearm at a student in the school cafeteria. Georgetown District High School was immediately placed into lockdown. As a precaution, Holy Cross Catholic Elementary School and Gary Allen High School were also placed in lockdown. Significant police resources were deployed to Georgetown District High School to ensure the safety of students and staff within the school and to conduct a thorough investigation into the reported incident. Upon entering the school, two males were immediately taken into custody without incident. A search of the school was conducted in an effort to locate the weapon in question. Our investigation determined that the weapon seen was a water gun, which was recovered during the search of the school. No physicals injuries were reported as a result of the incident. Both arrested parties were released unconditionally at the scene, and no criminal charges are pending. All three lockdowns were lifted prior to 2:00 pm. We appreciate the patience of parents while we responded to, and investigated this incident.​"
