Every year Shoppers Drug Mart hosts the Love You Run for Women in communities across Canada. Oakville has traditionally participated raising funds for the Oakville Hospital. This year the organizers are looking to grow the outreach and the funds will also be directed to the Milton and Georgetown hospital Foundations. With just over 600 participants registered, this year’s goal to be Canada’s second largest Run for Women is ambitious. Organizers are calling on the Milton and Georgetown hospitals to add 25 teams each. Teams have already been formed by the Georgetown Hospital Staff, the Georgetown Hospital Foundation and the Shopper’s Drug Mart Stores. The funds raised help support Halton Healthcare’s mental health team which includes approximately 120 staff and 20 psychiatrists, providing support to more than 1,600 women annually, including 150 girls (17 and under). Halton Healthcare offers care and treatment for people in our community struggling with anxiety, depression, mood and panic disorders, eating disorders and other mental health related illnesses. This event is held in Bronte Creek Provincial Park on Saturday, May 23. There are 4 event options: 1km Little Steps (for kids) 5km Run 5km Walk, or 10km Run. Registration is currently $50 ($25 for the 1km) but prices increase as the event date gets closer. Registration includes a race kit with over $100 in product and coupons, a race t-shirt and a finisher’s bracelet (see photo for last year’s incentives). Local residents are eligible for a $5 discount, email cvincent@haltonhealthcare.com for the discount code. Register at https://www.runforwomen.ca/Cities/Oakville.aspx. There are additional incentives for participants who opt to fundraise for the event. Not a runner/walker but want to help? No problem! All Shopper’s Drug Mart locations in Acton and Georgetown will be offering a point of sale donation option leading up to the event and Beauty Gala’s in store on May 2. You can also support the fundraising efforts of a local athlete by donating online. “We are excited to participate this year in the Shoppers Love You Run for Women” says Connor Vincent, Events Coordinator Georgetown Hospital Foundation. “GHF hasn’t had the opportunity to be a part of the event in the past and we are thrilled to help contribute to such an important cause this year. All funds raised by teams from Georgetown and Acton will be directed to the Georgetown Hospital Foundation. We invite you to join us in empowering women in our community.” Photo-Sandra Taylor, Executive Director of GHF, Jeff Hoffman, Associate Director, Philanthropy & Events at GHF, Connor Vincent, Events Coordinator at GHF Photo-2019 race kit, t-shirt and finisher’s bracelet
