Halton families will enjoy Christmas carols from the comfort of their couch this weekend. A live streaming virtual concert entitled "A Christmas Story" will be held Saturday, December 11th. Three Grey family daughters lend their voices to this group: Rachelle, Elizabeth, and Philishia. Their dad, Phil Grey, spoke to Acton UP about what it's like to be a family quartet.
"We can help each other out more frequently since we're right there, and we have a lot of knowledge of each other. Appreciation of each other."
Phil's wife, mother to the children, assists in management. The group is entitled Voices Rise.
"Oh, and our shared genetics can mean our voices harmonize better," Phil adds.
The latest initiative of Voices Rise involves helping The Wellness Shelter in Greenwich, London. Phil grew up in the United Kingdom. The Wellness Shelter offers courses and retreats with a focus on mental health care, parenting coaching, bereavement counselling, and more.
"With this shelter," Phil explained, "foster parents are able to get rest but also training and counsel. Missionaries are able to check in, with no cost to themselves, to recuperate with free meals, free housing. So they can go back to doing what they do, re-infused."
The Grey family is currently based in Toronto but, considering the pandemic, the event will be fully remote at 3 p.m. EST. Phil was eager to explain why those of us who live a bit more west should still tune in.
"Everyone from the Halton region that attends will enjoy quality music and a memorable experience. You'll aid others in need at Christmastime, while enjoying yourself. We all want to get through this pandemic and music is a language that speaks to everyone."
The family-friendly event will also feature a live band to accompany. Further information and tickets can be found here.
