Eight year old Liam Townshend is a Beaver Scout with 1st Acton Scouting working on a community project. For his project Liam is collecting donations of $6.32. That seems like an odd number, but he has a plan.
Presenting to his Beaver colony, Liam explained "I love my birthday and I want kids to be able to have birthday cakes". Liam, and his mom Mandi, will gather all the contents for the kits and, with the help of the rest of the colony, assemble them to donate to Food4Kids. The kit includes: a disposable cake pan, box cake mix, icing, birthday candles and a birthday note from 1st Acton Beavers. One kit costs $6.32. Food4Kids will distribute the kits in their holiday hampers.
So far Liam has raised enough money to assemble 50 kits, with a goal of assembling as many as they can and donating any surplus funds directly to Food4Kids.
Mandi has advertised this initiative on social media. She shares “I did have a mom in Georgetown reach out to my privately with a donation from her 9 year old because she read him the post I shared in the sell and tell and she said he cried because he spent 2 birthdays without cake while they were getting food assistance and so he donated 2 kits.”
If you wish to contribute you can donate by EMT to 1stActonBeaversA@gmail.com.
