HALTON HILLS, ON – The Town experienced a cybersecurity incident. Upon learning of the incident on March 22, the Town took immediate steps to address the issue, including retaining external cybersecurity specialists and, out of an abundance of caution, temporarily shutting down network systems.
An investigation into the full impact of the incident is ongoing. The Town is working with experienced cybersecurity professionals to support its investigation and to identify and facilitate communication with any parties that may have been affected.
We do not believe that the Town was specifically targeted. Cybersecurity risks are unfortunately commonplace in today’s environment and malware indiscriminately targets countless organizations each day around the world. The Town endeavors to continually improve and strengthen its information technology systems and will continue to prioritize investment in cybersecurity.
The Town is committed to data safety, is taking the matter very seriously and asks its residents and partners for their patience as it seeks to remediate the situation.
