Halton Hills gets Masked UP for Halloween

COVID-19 has impacted most events and holidays since the start of the pandemic in early 2020. While hopes were high that Halloween would be spared, it seems it will not. Many events have been canceled and Halton Region recently released their Public Health Guidelines for the holiday. For trick or treaters this means staying in your neighbourhood, travelling with your family (not friends), wear a non medical facemask, carry and use hand sanitizer often, maintain two metres from other ghosts and goblins, respect the houses not participating and if someone is already at the door wait at a distance. For those distributing treats you should wash your hands often, consider using tongs to distribute candy, give out only individual pre-wrapped items, and if giving out multiple items, pre-bag them to minimize contact at the door. And remember, for both groups, if you are feeling un-well don’t participate. On October 13, Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer, Dr. Tam, weighed in on trick or treating in 2020. “I think finding that balance of trying to provide some degree of normality, even though it is actually different from any other year, most public health leaders think that that is actually important.” Her recommendations echoed that of the Region’s. As for Acton, some of the regular Halloween haunts have gone virtual this year. Isaac’s Trek for Treats, normally run in the Tanner’s Woodlot, is a kids costume trail race and silent auction. This year the event will run virtually. Registration is just $5 per child with all funds going to Jesse’s Journey for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy research. Participants will receive a finisher’s certificate in their registration confirmation email. Trick or Treat on Mill and Main, presented by the Acton BIA, has also gone virtual. They will hold a Facebook event on October 30 at 6 p.m. There is a photo contest for best decorated house and home and costumes for babies, toddlers, children, teens and adult. All photos must be submitted by October 24 to actonbiahalloween2020@yahoo.com. Sarah Brophy Platts and Royal LePage Escarpment will once again be hosting a pumpkin give away. Normally held at the Trick or Treat on Mill and Main, the event has moved to Acton Town Hall on October 24 starting at 10 a.m. You must sign up to participate. You can find more information at https://www.facebook.com/events/787935342001742. Pumpkin Promenade is a new event this year, which will also be hosted at Acton Town Hall, on November 1. Drop off your carved pumpkin between 12 noon and 3 p.m. (one hour timeslots are assigned alphabetically by last name). Come back between 6-9pm to see all the pumpkins on lit up and on display. More details on the event site https://www.facebook.com/events/682912972657658. Cody’s Cows is also hosting a new event, the Haunted Hay Ride. This event will be run October 23, 24, 29, 30, and 31. It promises zombies, ghosts and spooks. It is $30 for a group of six and will run every 30 minutes after 6 p.m. Contact the store to sign up. https://www.facebook.com/events/538322673679540 This Halloween do what feels right for your family. Don’t judge others for doing what feels right for theirs. We will all get through this... TOGETHER
