HALTON HILLS, ON/ July 8, 2020 – Halton Hills Public Library is thrilled to announce and congratulate Douglas Davey, Manager of Children’s and Youth Services at HHPL who has been awarded the 2020 OLA Children’s or Youth Services Librarian of the Year Award by the Ontario Library Association (OLA). The Ontario Library Association, congratulates and celebrates the achievements of Ontario Public Library Association (OPLA) members through various awards. With unwavering passion, award winners go above and beyond the call of duty to promote library services within the community, to provide exemplary reader’s advisory services, and to improve the overall work experience of their fellow colleagues. Douglas joined HHPL in 2004 and has been instrumental in developing both the children’s and youth areas in both the Acton and Georgetown Branches. He was an early adopter of graphic novels and has been asked to speak at various conferences on developing these collections. Douglas is a strong advocate for the 2SLGBTQ+ community. He and his team develop pride displays, provide safe spaces for the Positive Space Network youth meetings, 2SLGBTQ+ family games evening, and most recently, HHPL’s first Drag Queen Storytime. Douglas is currently the Vice President of OPLA council. “Winning this award is a true honour for me,” says Douglas Davey, Manager of Children’s and Youth Services. “My team and I work hard to support all the families and diverse communities in Halton Hills. Providing a support network, with safe and inclusive spaces that offer essential literacy tools, education, creativity and joy is vital for the growth of children and youth.
