HALTON HILLS, ON/ January 19, 2022 – The Halton Hills Public Library is thrilled to be shortlisted for the Angus Mowat Award of Excellence, alongside incredible nominees, for its offering of Francophone programs and services. Connexions Culturelles is an ongoing commitment to serving the local Francophone community in their primary language.
HHPL launched Connexions Culturelles in 2020 with the aim to develop relationships between the library, its partners, and the local Francophone community. This included the delivery of arts and culture programs in French, preserving and sharing the story of our local Francophone community through a virtual archive exhibit, and expanding the library’s French-language collection to meet the needs and interests of the community.
“We’re proud of the continued work that we’ve done to engage and support the Francophone community,” says Danielle Dawe, Adult Services Librarian. “It’s an honour to be recognized for this award.”
This Ontario Public Library Service Award is granted once a year and recognizes a commitment to excellence in the delivery of public library service. Funding received from the Francophone Community Grants Program allowed HHPL and the Town of Halton Hills to build meaningful relationships with the Francophone community.
“This grant provided the support needed to connect with the Francophone Community in Halton Hills,” says Beverley King, Acting Chief Librarian and CEO. “We’ve been able to build on that work to develop sustainable and impactful programs and services.”
The winners of the Angus Mowat Award of Excellence will be announced at the 2023 Ontario Library Association’s Super Conference on February 2.
