Halton Police Board Welcomes New Board Member The Halton Regional Police Services Board will welcome new Board member Councillor Clark Somerville at its first meeting of the year on January 31, 2019. Regional Council appointed Councillor Somerville to the Board effective December 19, 2018. He is currently the Regional Councillor for Wards One and Two in the Town of Halton Hills and is a former President of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), a national voice of municipal governments who work closely with the Government of Canada to advance current municipal concerns. Representing his community of Acton in Halton Hills since 1996, Councillor Somerville has also sat on other committees including FCM’s Rural Forum, Halton’s Administration and Finance Committee, Agricultural Advisory Committee and Health and Social Services Committee, the latter of which he has served as Chair. He received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his work with FCM and for his national advocacy on free and fair trade. This will be Councillor Somerville’s second appointment the Halton Regional Police Services Board (2003 – 2006) and he will succeed recently retired councillor Rick Craven. Other members on the board include Mayor Rob Burton, Barb Ferrone, Gary Burkett, Ingrid Hann, Councillor Jeff Knoll, and Jason Wadden. The Halton Regional Police Services Board is a seven member civilian board that provides strategic oversight to the Halton Regional Police Service. Under the Police Services Act, the board has legislated responsibility for the police service’s operating and capital budgets; strategic planning; policies and priorities. The police board’s fundamental responsibility is to ensure adequate and effective police services are provided to the citizens of Halton Region.
