HDSB achieves highest results ever in Grade 3 Reading and Grade 6 Reading and Writing on EQAO assessments

Results released today from Education Quality and Accountability Office

Results released today from the Ontario Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) show Halton District School Board (HDSB) students, overall, continue to perform above the provincial average based on assessments completed in the 2017-2018 school year. These results show that HDSB students are well above the provincial standard (Level 3 & 4, or a B grade or above). In particular, the results in Grade 3 Reading, and Grade 6 Reading and Writing are the highest ever achieved in the HDSB.

In Grade 3, Reading results show a percentage point gain from the previous year from 82% to 83% which is eight percentage points above the provincial average of 75%. In Grade 6 Reading, results show an improvement to 88% from 87% in the previous year. The provincial average for Grade 6 Reading is 82%. In Grade 6 Writing, students achieved 87% - seven percentage points higher than the provincial average of 80%. This result is an improvement from the previous year’s Grade 6 Writing assessment by one percent.

While students in the Halton District School Board continue to perform well above the provincial average, the Board recognizes the need to make improvements in Mathematics.

“We are very proud of the HDSB’s overall EQAO results,” says David Boag, Associate Director for the Halton District School Board. “We continue to achieve very high results in most areas and recognize the work of our staff in supporting student learning across the system.”
