HDSB to host virtual Celebration of Student Excellence event on Thursday, May 14

Virtual event will begin at 7 p.m. at www.hdsb.ca The Halton District School Board will host a virtual Celebration of Student Excellence event on Thursday, May 14 at 7 p.m. at www.hdsb.ca to recognize this year’s Student Excellence recipients. The event will be a video honouring 104 outstanding students who are recipients of this year’s Student Excellence Award. It will be available on the HDSB website at 7 p.m. for families to enjoy together. The recording of this event will remain online for families to view afterwards. The annual Celebration of Student Excellence event was originally planned to take place on this day in-person however, as with all school events, it was cancelled to follow public health recommendations. Each year, elementary and secondary schools in the HDSB nominate one student per school for this recognition. Students can only receive this honour once in their school career. The event has been a Board tradition since 1984. The nominations for these outstanding students cite qualities such as “striving for excellence”, “positive attitude”, “honesty”, “integrity”, “being empathetic to others”, “involvement in community”, “dedicated athlete”, and “inclusivity”. “We hope families and staff can join us on May 14, on what is, of course, a very different ceremony than the one we had planned,” says Stuart Miller, Director of Education for the Halton District School Board. “The Celebration of Student Excellence is one of the highlights of the school year. This year’s recipients deserve to be honoured for their remarkable achievements as we have honoured all Student Excellence recipients in previous years.”
