Over the past 10 years more than 800 members of the Service have registered for Movember, raising over $300,000 to fund life changing health promotion and awareness programs across Canada.” says Connie Osborne, in a media release for the Toronto Police Services Movember campaign. This year the ‘Follicle Force Team’ has again participated but with one new addition, Draper. Draper is a 3 year old Clydesdale who joined the Toronto Police Services Mounted Unit this year. His trainer/partner is Acton resident, Training Constable Christina Cooper. Christina has been an officer for 16 years and has worked in 54 & 23 Division but moved to the mounted unit in March 2019. She moved into the training department of the Mounted Division around the same time Draper arrived. Follicle Force is just $1500 short of their $20,000 fundraising goal. Draper has brought in almost $2100 of that, the second highest fundraiser on the team. Christina would love to see her horse in first place. She says “The mounted unit has never seen a horse with such an epic moustache before. Some horses have muzzles that are a bit hairy but nothing like Draper! He’s taken this to a whole new level.” “Mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer – we’re taking them all on. Since 2003, Movember has funded more than 1,250 men’s health projects around the world, challenging the status quo, shaking up men’s health research and transforming the way health services reach and support men. BY 2030, WE AIM TO REDUCE THE NUMBER OF MEN DYING PREMATURELY BY 25%.” (https://ca.movember.com) With just days left in the campaign, please consider giving.
