A good sign that the effects of covid are gradually disappearing is seeing members faces that we have not seen for a couple of years. Saturday afternoons are beginning to look like they were before the pandemic descended on us all. Of course, we are still wearing masks when walking around, and the branch is continuing to check vaccine passports, but at least we are starting to enjoy ourselves once again. Cathy gave me some news to pass on regarding our annual literary and poster contest. Two of our branch 197 winners were successful at the Zone level. Autumn Barr placed first with her Essay, in the Intermediate category, and will advance to district level, whilst Tess Jenny took second place with her Black & White Poster, at the Junior level. Congratulations to both students. Unfortunately, we were unable to host the annual awards ceremony this year because of covid, but I understand that Cathy has visited all the schools to present the awards to all winners at local level. Once again, the annual trip to Sunnybrook, scheduled for Sunday February 27th, had to be cancelled. It has been postponed indefinitely. We will send an additional cheque to the veterans’ comfort fund to compensate for missing the visit Lynda is hosting a Friday night social on March 18th with Burger and Fries available or Sausage on a bun with Fries. Entertainment is by local artist Monty Greig. Make sure you have your ticket. The next Monthly General meeting is on Monday March 14th at 8pm. Please plan to attend. Please check the webpage at legion197.com, and in addition we will be posting information on Social- Media. David Maloney is the public relations officer for the Acton Legion, Branch 197.
