We have assigned an Ad Hoc committee to review our procedures for re-opening. This Committee met on Thursday June 3rd and set a Target Date of Friday June 18th for a two-week trial Reopening. This will coincide with our Legion Fundraiser. If government regulations allow, we can invite members to eat their pickup dinner on our Patio. Discussion at the meeting, revolved around the following topics: introduction of servers carrying a Debit Credit machine, PPE protocols, serving of mixed drinks with canned pop rather than fountain drinks, and restricting access to paid up members only, from both Branch197 and Ladies Auxiliary. A follow up meeting of the Executive will make the final decision, and this will be published on social media as well as our web page. Any form of opening must strictly follow Government guidelines.
Somebody remarked to me recently about how well we took care of the cenotaph. We thank Eileen Quackenbush for placing the flowers at the cenotaph on behalf of the branch and Billy Mathers who gives time each day to water the flowers.
We offer our deepest condolences to the family of John Emmerson, our comrade who passed away at Extendicare. We will miss him jokingly telling us it was his birthday every time he came to the branch. We also mourn the loss of our former Zone Commander Ola McNutt. We enjoyed his visits to our branch in both his capacity as our Commander and when visiting with his wife, Judy on social occasions. Ola earned a lifetime membership for his years of dedication and support for the Royal Canadian Legion.
Tom Irvine, Dominion President of the Royal Canadian Legion issued a directive for all legions to lower their flags for 215 hours in remembrance of the children from the BC residential school whose remains were found. Wes Kutasienski asked that our flag be lowered for ten days. We stand in solidarity with our First Nations comrades.
Please check the webpage at legion197.com, and in addition we will be posting information on Facebook.
