At a meeting of the Executive on August 20th the following decision was made. A tentative plan was put in place to open Branch 197 for two days each week, commencing on Friday September 11th, for a trial period. Access will be restricted to members in good standing, and one guest per member. Opening hours will be limited to Fridays and Saturdays and the details will be made available on our webpage and Facebook page shortly before the opening. A sub committee will work with Halton Health to come up with a list of COVID rules and regulations to be observed by all members and guests. The ultimate aim being members safety. The visit to the Branch of the Sunnybrook vets, scheduled for September, has of course been cancelled. We received a letter from the Vets thanking us for the contribution to their comfort fund and setting aside a tentative date of Sunday February 28th for us to visit them, providing restrictions have been lifted by then. VJ Day has come and gone and we were not able to celebrate it. Maybe later we can look back and do so. This years Remembrance Day Parade has been cancelled and discussions around doing a scaled down ceremony on November 11th, resulted in the formation of a sub committee to come up with a plan that will limit participation of members and the public. We will use social media to inform both the members and the public as our plans evolve Last year the winning essay in our Remembrance Day, Poster and Essay contest, the Senior entry essay was won by Madelyn Vander Meer of Acton Highschool. Her entry has progressed through, Zone level, District Level and ending up with a second place at Provincial level. I believe that this the highest level ever attained by a branch 197 student entry, and of course we are extremely proud of Madelyn and her wonderful essay. Please check the webpage at legion197.com, and in addition we will be posting information on Facebook. You can email the branch at rclbr197@cogeco.net DAVID MALONEY PRO BRANCH 197. ACTON.
