After a two-year gap we were finally able to hold an initiation ceremony on Monday November 25th, and the following members introduced to the Legion: ASSOCIATES: Cathy Howe, Michael Howe, Michael Maziarz, and Susan Pottinger. AFFILIATES: Bonnie Duhamel, Dave Egan, Mary Ridley, Lori Andrews, Kim Bradshaw, and Bruce Luoma. At the same meeting, Br.197 donated $4000.00 to the Memorial fund for WW1 hero Jack Munroe, whose grave is in Fairview cemetery.
Outdoor capacity limits have been lifted for parades. On Saturday November 6th, we plan to hold our annual remembrance parade and Cenotaph ceremony. We will march behind the Georgetown Pipe band, as the Citizens band are not available. The numbers will certainly be down, as most organizations are experiencing a drop in personnel. We are encouraging all participants to wear a mask outdoors, except when playing instruments or speaking. Also , we will try to keep a comfortable distance from each other.. In order to enter the Legion, following the outdoor ceremony, all personnel must follow strict Covid protocols as follows: PROOF OF DOUBLE VACCINATION AND PHOTO IDENTITY to be shown.
We are looking for volunteers to help with serving the luncheon, clean-up, and dishwashers. Please contact me if you can help.
Normally we hold a ceremony at the Cenotaph on November 11th involving local school children. This year the schools are reluctant to bring their students to a gathering so we will have low key ceremony with some youngsters, and cadets on hand
On Saturday November 13th, some of our ladies are holding a Christmas Bazaar in the Main Hall from 11am to 3pm. I have seen the list of venders and it looks very promising. Food and drink will also be available.
We are planning a special breakfast for November 20th, and I understand that Lynda will once again serve a Swiss Chalet Season special, planned for early December. Details to follow.
Please check the webpage at legion197.com, and in addition we will be posting information on Social- Media.
