Branch 197 colour party was proud to stand alongside their comrades from Branch 120 at the recent flag raising ceremony celebrating the Queen’s platinum jubilee. President Peggy Graham was also in attendance along with town dignitaries, and members of the Monarchist league of Canada.
Peggy wants to thank all the volunteers who turned out to decorate the graves of our veterans on Sunday June 5. She regrets the poor turnout this year
We are gearing up for a busy year, starting with July 1st celebrations. At the time of writing, Les and Lynda are talking to the Firefighters and the Acton citizens band in the hope that we can resume welcoming the townspeople to the kind of fun we have always had in the past.
On Saturday June 11, the Zone golf was held in Acton, and we had several members qualify for the district tournament that will be held at Port Dover on July 23rd. They are Wayne Deforest, Deb Fields, Rae Nellis, Keith Anderson, Lori Savage, Jane Shorthill, Courtney Tummon-Hastie, and Teresa Uiterwyk.
Keith and Teresa are also advancing in Washer Toss along with Jonny Uiterwyk, Brian Richards, and Joe Jubinville.
From July 5th to August 7th, Team ruck groups will be hiking the Bruce trail (900k march) from Tobermory to Niagara on the lake. Stopping at 20 legions enroute. Acton’s Br.197 being one of them. The teams a raising funds for homeless Vets so please welcome them should you meet them at the branch.
Sunday August 28th is the date for this year’s car show and the planning committee is in place. More details to follow.
Sunday September 11, we will host the fourth annual ride or stride for Claudio. This is a motor bike rally and fundraiser to support SickKids Lymphoma research fund.
Lynda and Les plan to continue the Friday night social including the return of the successful Trivia night.
