M.M. Robinson High School wins FIRST Robotics competition

High school team captures title at Durham College competition Feb. 28 - March 1 Several Halton District School Board FIRST Robotics teams competed at the FIRST Robotics Competition Ontario hosted by Durham College on Feb. 28 - March 1, 2020. For the second consecutive year, the M.M. Robinson High School ‘Rambotics’ team were the competition champions. The competition included close to 1,000 high school students from 36 teams across Ontario. Students compete to build their own robots, demonstrating their engineering skills and knowledge. The three HDSB teams at the competition were Georgetown District High School’s Revolt Robotics, M.M. Robinson High School’s (MMR) Rambotics and Dr. Frank J. Hayden Secondary School’s Hayden Robotics. The HDSB teams proved to be strong competitors, with all three teams making the playoffs, with MMR continuing on to win the competition as Durham Regional Champions. Revolt Robotics advanced to the finals and Hayden Robotics to the semi-finals. “We are so proud of M.M. Robinson High School’s success in capturing back-to-back titles at the FIRST Robotics championships,” says Veronica Kleinsmith, responsible for Specialist High Skills Major and Pathways for the HDSB. “We are thrilled with how all of the HDSB robotics teams performed at the competition. These performances show the strength and value of Technological Education in Halton. With the support of teachers, parents, mentors, sponsors and the broader community, these robotics programs give our students so many truly unique opportunities to learn and gain real-world experience.” The HDSB hopes to have a number of FIRST Robotics teams compete at the Ontario District Championship April 8-11 in Mississauga.
