HALTON HILLS, ON – The Town of Halton Hills joins communities across Canada in mourning the 215 children whose remains were found at a former residential school site in Kamloops, British Columbia. “This is an appalling and grievous discovery,” said Mayor Rick Bonnette. “My heart aches for the children. This reminder of the residential school system tragedy is eye-opening and I hope that we as a nation are learning from these horrors of the past so that we truly can be the welcoming country that we purport to be. Eradicating racism, promoting messages of unity, equity and hope should be the very foundation on which we govern and live.” Flags at municipal facilities will be lowered for nine days – 215 hours, one hour for each of the lives lost.
