“A strong and reputable voice for the residences and business of Ward Two.”’
Jason Brass grew up in Norval, Ontario, spent a lot of his childhood in and out of the Georgetown area, and has lived throughout different communities within Halton. Ten years ago Brass purchased “Terra Cotta Cookies” which is a Georgetown-based 100% nut-free cookie company dedicated to providing, “healthy, lower fat, trans-fat free, peanut and nut free snacks and drinks to schools across the GTA area.”
After purchasing Terra Cotta Cookies Brass moved back to Ward 2 and has been volunteering within the community through local community events. Brass was also Vice Chair of the Halton Hills Chamber of Commerce for five years and now he is on the Board of Directors at the Bennett Long Term Care Centre in Georgetown. Brass joined Acton UP in an interview regarding his filing for councillor and his campaign plans.
“I have always been very involved in the community and as a logical next step, I thought it would be a good time to run for municipal council. Growing up I was always interested in politics.”
As Brass was growing up he was around the long-time Mayor of Mississauga Hazel McCallion, because she was a close family friend. Brass shares, “I was always intrigued by her stories and the challenges of running the city. This is what sparked my interest in local politics.” Brass continues, “Then I got involved with boards, and dealing with the town issues had me intrigued even more. Over the last six months or so, I decided to throw my hat in the ring.”
Brass’s main area of focus is keeping the small town charm, property tax accountability, and commercial truck traffic in Ward 2.
“I want to protect the small town charm, there is going to be development and growth which is great, but I want to be impactful about the growth. I want to protect the town all the while growing responsibly.” Brass continues, “As a business owner, I know the need to watch your expenses and I’d like to take that experience to the council as well, to keep property taxes as low as we can and be as accountable to the residents at Ward 2 about the taxes they pay.” Brass concludes, “lastly, there is a lot of speeding on the rural roads in Ward 2, I want to be able to take actions on those two items and take a look at how commercial truck traffic is affecting our streets and if there is something we can change.”
Brass has strong feelings towards Ward 2, alongside the town. Through his business Brass feels he has experienced all sides of the community and feels he has the undergo and ability to challenge issues and problems the ward faces and hopes to make a genuine difference. Brass concludes with a promise to the community, “A strong and reputable voice for the residences and business of Ward Two.”
