Meet your Provincial Election Candidates - Ted Arnott

A Conversation with Politician Ted Arnott

The Provincial election will be taking place in June of this year and Acton UP has reached out to the elected Wellington and Halton Hills candidates for an interview regarding their current campaigns.

Ted Arnott is the representative for the Wellington and Halton Hills MPP for the Progressive Conservative Party and hopes to be re-elected this June. Arnott has served as the Ontario Legislator since 1990 as a member of the provincial parliament. A family man, Arnott resides with his wife Lisa, in Ferguson, where the couple raised their three sons.

Arnott discussed with Acton UP his policies for the election and the goals the Conservative Party has for the Wellington and Halton Hills area. Due to the Wellington and Halton Hills, being a rural majority district, Arnott is for farm families and protecting the environment. When asked how Arnott intends to protect local agriculture and farmland he comments,

“The government needs to continue to promote policies that protect our farmland and yet there is still a balance that is required with so many issues. But fundamentally we need to be able to feed our population and we should be able to export the foods that grow in Ontario. We want to support and sustain a strong agriculture business.”

Arnott also believes that the environment is a significant issue due to global warming and greenhouse gases. He is aware of the anxieties the community faces regarding the future and poor conditions of our environment, Arnott comments,

“The environment is a topic on the minds of individuals these days because of the air, water and earth not being clean. The Federal and Provincial governments both have a role and are active in encouraging a cleaner environment and reducing our carbon footprint. The Halton Hills council has a strong interest in this and has done a great job in reminding us to protect our environment not only as a community but individually as well.”

The re-election will be happening in the middle of significant Canadian urgencies, such as the current housing crisis, home equity and the astronomical rise in gas prices. Arnott remarks, “the housing crisis is a significant issue right now and the Provincial government has a role to play to address the issue.”

According to the government, there is a plan over the next ten years to build over a million homes and streamline the process of construction of real estate. Arnott comments, “This plan will take many years and we need a short-term solution, we need to engage local government and federal government to look for assistance in that regard. As a member of the legislative, I am concerned about this too.”

As somebody who has served as the legislator now for thirty-two-years Ted Arnott has many goals for the Wellington and Halton Hills riding. He hopes to put his experience to work again for the people in his constituency and make a contribution that is beneficial to his Province. Arnott remarks,

“We have gone through such a difficult two years due to the pandemic as a Province. Now we are relaxing some of the mandates and restrictions as it is safe to do so, but we are going to have some considerable challenges over the next few years.

Especially in regards to economic development, especially the cost of food and gasoline. It is very difficult for families to make ends meet right now. All of these things are of serious concern for all of us. I do not suggest I have all of the answers but I do believe I have the experience that can be put towards dealing with these challenges and rebuilding the Province.”

Arnott believes that the communities within the Wellington and Halton Hills district are wonderful and have very hardworking people who contribute a lot to their public.

Ultimately, Arnott wants to give back to the community in terms of dealing with primary issues, “we have enormous challenges ahead of us,” Arnott comments, “but certainly if I am re-elected I will make a meaningful contribution.”

Arnott’s campaign will not start until May, however, more information about him can be found on his Ontario MPP website, here, or on the Legislative of Ontario website, here.
