Ontario’s schools have been closed since March 13 due to COVID-19 and today Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced that Ontario schools will remain closed for in-school learning for the remainder of the school year. “The safety of our children is my top priority” he said.
Online learning will continue, students on track to graduate high school previous to March will still graduate and all students will receive report cards. Education Minister, Stephen Lecce, indicated that schools will re-open in September and that a plan for what that will look like will be released by the end of June.
This announcement comes on the heels of the initial phase of the provincial economic re-opening. With many parents returning to work and daycares and childcare centers still closed many parents will be left scrambling for the limited available home day care spots.
