COVID-19 has had many victims across the country and the world. We have seen not only humans, but businesses, organizations and rights and freedoms fall victim to virus, or at least the fear of it. The latest victim was the prom of students across the country. However for one pair of Halton Hills students, life support, or rather love support arrived in time of emergency. Autumn Kilimsiak, age 17 was set to have her prom at Christ The King Catholic secondary school in Georgetown. The prom along with many other events had been cancelled or postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however this would not stop her boyfriend, 19 year old Brock University student Sean Martincourt, from making her evening special. “ you know how all the grade 12s, they don’t get their prom this year, so I thought she deserved to have the full nine” Martincourt said referring to his girlfriend Autumn. The night of May 3 was already wonderful. Warm weather, a very light breeze, and a magnificent pink, gold and purple sunset. The magnificent sunset, also turned out to be a magnificent distraction to get Autumn away from her house. “Suzanne, Autumn’s mom was instrumental in doing this. We were all on cell phones and Autumn’s sister took her for a bike ride to see the sunset and we came around the back” said Sean’s mother, Sheri. “It was crazy and all the neighbours came out, there was like little girls UP in the window. It was so cute”. Autumn came back to a dazzling light display which spelt “Prom” in giant letters across Autumn’s family driveway. Autumn was greeted with cake, music and even Sean fully dressed in suit and tie. “I thought it was like a movie” said Autumn. Autumn and Sean had not seen each other since March 6th and have both been following social distancing and suggestions to stay at home. They have kept UP their relationship through texting and apps like FaceTime. “This is the first time Sean’s been in a car from Georgetown, like we haven’t left our street in 44 days.” Sean’s mother Sheri told us. “He is going to go into 14 days quarantine because he came and kissed her tonight”. Even though Sean would have to spend his next 14 days in his bedroom, by the look on the couple’s faces they thought it was well worth it. “it was perfect” said Autumn.
