The Rotary Club of Acton has had to cancel plans for its Spring Gala for the second year in a row. This year however the group will be hosting an online auction.
Proceeds from the event, ‘A Taste of Spring’, will be split 50/50, organizer Cynthia Van Veghel tells Acton UP. “50 percent will support the Townsend Smith Hospice Foundation and 50 percent will go to local Rotary causes.”
This is Cynthia’s first time chairing a fundraising event with the Rotary Club, which she joined three years ago, and she’s hoping to make it a success.
“We have over 70 items donated with values between $20 and $1,200 and a total value of over $10,000.”
The group is utilizing an app called Bid Beacon. Once you download the app onto your phone or tablet, enter code THXPJU, to find items organized by categories. The categories are art, experiences and outdoors, gift baskets, gift cards and certificates, home supplies, household items, kids and miscellaneous.
Individual items range from things like cases of toilet paper, a year’s supply of hand sanitizer, or a family first aid kit to kayaking experiences, a night in a B&B, or a wine barrel coffee table.
The auction is open for viewing now. Bidding opens May 7 at 5 p.m. and closes May 16 at 5 p.m.
