Residents Receive Rate Relief For Halton Hills

In recognition of the disruption caused by the COVID-19 outbreak, the Town of Halton Hills will be offering temporary relief for taxpayers by removing all penalties and fees for those who need to defer payment. The grace period will run from April 1 to June 30, 2020. Taxpayers who are on the preauthorized tax payment plan or those who have sent post-dated cheques for their upcoming installments, have the option of staying with the current terms or cancelling the payment by emailing taxdepartment@haltonhills.ca or calling 905-873-2600 before 4:30 p.m. April 15, 2020. “These are unusual and challenging times and I am pleased to offer this bit of good news for our residents and business,” said Mayor Rick Bonnette. “I know that there are a lot of people concerned about job security and finances. The temporary tax relief measure is one way we can support our community to get through this difficult time.” Earlier today, Halton Region chose to extend the payment due date for the local municipalities from April 30 to June 30 along with other relief efforts including lowering the industrial tax ratio for businesses. “The Region’s payment extension gives us the ability to better manage our cash flow,” said Brent Marshall, Chief Administrative Officer. “As well, the deferral gives us the opportunity to pass this along to our residents and businesses to support them now through this crisis and later during the economic recovery period.” Read more at haltonhills.ca. All four local municipalities are offering tax relief to their communities. Halton Hills Hydro is also providing relief to its customers following the announcement by the Government of Ontario that time-of-use electricity rates will be charged at off-peak rates 24 hours a day, seven days a week on a temporary basis for 45 days. Information regarding tax relief from the boards of education is pending.
