On October 20 The Rotary Club of Acton hosted it first Zoom virtual cooking class. The class was led by Chef Dale McCarthy of Everton Academy of Culinary Arts. Chef McCarthy normally caters Rotary events and was the obvious choice for this inaugural event.
Participants were guided through a three course menu which consisted of chili spiced shrimp, salmon and leek with cream in phyllo pastry and Crepes with spiced mixed fruit. “He taught us more than just the meal. We made the meal backwards, so everything was ready on time,” says organizer, and participant, Alison Macintosh.
This was a free event with the option to donate. “People were very generous with their donations” adds Macintosh. The event raised $1300 and the Rotary donated $1000 to two local charities, Acton Foodshare and Food4Kids.
If you missed the event but want to try the recipes, a video of the event is just being finalized and will be available on YouTube very soon.
“It was so much fun, and people loved it” exclaims Macintosh.
It was so well received that they are, in fact, planning a second event. This one to be held on December 8 and lead by Claudia from Goodfellow’s Field to Fork in Rockwood.
The menu will consist of sour dough bread and a vegan soup. Money raised from this event will go to the Food Hamper. You can sign up through the Rotary’s Facebook page.
