HALTON HILLS, ON – Due to the ongoing threat of COVID-19 and in adherence to Provincial and public health directives, the Town of Halton Hills is cancelling all Town-run summer programs scheduled from June 29 to September 4. Cancelled activities include: summer camps, recreation and aquatic programs and public swimming and skating as offered in the Town Spring/Summer 2020 Community and Activity Guide. Refunds will be issued automatically as Town staff reach out to program participants advising of the cancellations and reimbursement process. “It’s very unfortunate but we really don’t have a choice. The safety of our community has to come first.” said Mayor Rick Bonnette. “To program registrants, I ask for your patience as staff processes the high volume of refunds in the coming weeks.” Questions regarding registration fees and account status during the closures may be directed to the Registration Hotline at 905-873-2600 extension 2275 or via email to recreation@haltonhills.ca. Effective June 29, as a replacement to regular offerings, the Town will provide virtual summer programming via an online platform featuring daily activities for children ages 4-12. Families will be provided a variety of recreational activities focused on physical activity, healthy choices, creativity, exploration and appreciation. Further information on how to participate will be available June 15, 2020. Chief Administrative Officer Brent Marshall remarked that “These are unusual times but I am very proud of how staff has adapted to provide supports and services to the community while respecting COVID-19 physical distancing requirements.” As restrictions from the Province and Public Health are lifted, the Town will implement redesigned or modified programs where possible. New programs will be advertised and shared on the Town’s website and social media platforms. Check the Town’s COVID-19 web page under Closures and Service Adjustments for current information.
