HALTON HILLS, ON/ December 15, 2020 – The Halton Hills Public Library is pleased to announce it has partnered with Community Development Halton and Food For Life to launch the Library Care Letter Writing Campaign, to combat isolation and loneliness for older adults and vulnerable persons. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, many older adults have been suffering from isolation and loneliness; unable to be with loved ones or to receive visitors. In an effort to help, the Halton Hills Public Library is providing support during this critical time. The Library Care – Letter Writing Program is intended to help provide support through outreach and community connected initiatives. The Library is asking for the community to help with this important program. Residents of all ages are encouraged to share heart-warming stories, illustrations, words of encouragement, a hello we care, and/or any other positive messages. HHPL will be collecting letters, cards, artwork and poetry for older adults throughout the winter months. To get involved and brighten someone’s day, simply pick up a Library Care – Grab and Go Kit from the Acton or Georgetown branch of HHPL or create your own. Take a few minutes to create a positive message, work of art, poem or message of hope, as these letters can have a profound effect on the lives of socially isolated people. When your message(s) are complete, drop them back off to your closest branch and HHPL will make sure they get delivered. “We are pleased to launch this program in support of older adults in our community,” says Beverley King, Manager of Community and Adult Services. “Seniors and our most vulnerable can always use more joy in their daily lives, so we encourage residents to write often. Receiving a letter that you can hold, and re-read is therapeutic and life-changing for many." Letters and written messages, will be included in Good Food Bags, provided by Food For Life, and distributed to seniors across Halton Region.
