The People’s Aggregate Summit
Gravelwatch Ontario is holding The People’s Aggregate Summit on Tueday, May 28 at the Puslinch Community Centre at 7 pm – Details attached.
The GWO Summit is in response to the Aggregate Industry Summit hosted by Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry, John Yakabuski, in March which was limited to industry representatives. The People’s Summit will address the proposals being lobbied for by the aggregate industry, the propose legislation which would meet some of the industry demands, and the impact they would have. The agenda includes:
Theresa McClenaghan, Executive Director and Counsel from the Canadian Environmental Law Association (CELA)
Theresa will be providing an overview of the rapidly changing environmental regulatory framework
Ian McLaurin from the Ontario Soils Regulation Task Force (OSRTF)
Ian will be speaking to the increasing risk that pits and quarries across Ontario will become the preferred dumping ground for “excess soils”
Franco DiGiovanni Air Quality Expert from the Hemmera Environmental Consultancy
Franco will be discussing the importance of evaluating the quality of technical work done in support of aggregate proposals.
The Concerned Residents Coalition will be in attendance.
CRC is currently in an 8-week LPAT Hearing regarding the James Dick Construction Company application for an aggregate licence on the outskirts of the town of Rockwood, and in the Paris-Galt Moraine.
