HALTON HILLS, ON The Town is implementing an affordable housing engagement and awareness strategy as part of an ongoing commitment to facilitate affordable and accessible housing in Halton Hills. The strategy involves opportunities for outreach and engagement with the public, including an online forum on Let’s Talk Halton Hills that is designed to foster a two-way dialogue and gather preliminary input on what affordable housing means to the community. Residents and businesses are encouraged to visit the site to access background information and provide ideas and testimonials that will help inform the future direction of housing initiatives in the town. A multi-tiered communications plan will be rolled out over the next eight months to support the engagement strategy. The program, themed “What does affordable housing mean to you?”, includes ongoing website updates, resident surveys and forums and an Open House in February that will kick off “Affordable Housing Month”, a program of events and awareness building activities focusing on the Town’s affordable housing initiatives and projects. “Creating a vibrant community that is affordable for all is an essential part of the Town's Strategic Plan,” said Halton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette. “Council’s goal is to collaborate with residents and stakeholders to identify and deliver affordable housing solutions while building a forward thinking and innovative model for new community development.” Affordable housing is a focus area in the Town’s Strategic Plan that supports the Shaping Growth priority. Recognizing the importance of providing current and future residents with an adequate supply and range of housing choices, a number of actions have been developed to address the lack of affordable housing in Halton Hills. Visit the affordable housing web page for more information on current and completed initiatives. “Partnership with residents, stakeholders and all levels of government is critical to the success of any future housing initiatives in Halton Hills”, said Councillor Jon Hurst, Affordable Housing Working Group Chair. “We’re pleased to see the working group’s recommendations put into action and look forward to receiving community input through the process.”
