Townsend Smith Foundation Gains Momentum with Their 6th Annual Hike for Hospice

HALTON HILLS - The Townsend Smith Foundation, known for its tireless advocacy and efforts towards establishing a residential hospice facility, is once again setting its sights on a major fundraising event - the much-anticipated 6th Annual Hike for Hospice.

The foundation's ultimate goal is to construct and maintain a 20,000-square-foot hospice facility that will house 10 private, home-like bedrooms and cozy common spaces for loved ones. This facility is to be located on the corner of #5 Side Road and Trafalgar Road, the former site of Hillcrest United Church.

The Foundation is currently in a full-blown fundraising drive, with local teams from Acton and Georgetown – "Acton's Hope for a Hospice" and "Ruth & Elaine's Team", respectively – leading the charge.

Acton Team Leader, Beverley Mattocks, has expressed enthusiasm and optimism about the upcoming event. "This is our 6th annual hike, and I feel we have really gained some traction here in Acton," said Mattocks. "Although this hike is a fundraiser, we are also working hard to make the residents of Halton Hills and Milton aware of the Hospice and what it will do for our communities."

The hike itself is a 5-kilometre trail, beginning and ending at the children's playground off Doctor Moore Court.

This annual event has steadily gained popularity over the years, raising crucial funds for the Foundation and providing an excellent opportunity for community members to come together and support a worthy cause.

This year's Hike for Hospice is expected to be bigger than ever, with both teams eagerly preparing for the day's journey. It represents another significant stride towards realizing the vision of the Townsend Smith Foundation – to build a hospice that offers a comforting and homely environment for those in need.

As preparations for the event continue, the Foundation and participating teams are calling upon local residents and businesses for support, either through participation or donations. The Townsend Smith Foundation's commitment to this cause is clear. With the local community's continued backing, the dream of having a residential hospice facility in the heart of Halton Hills may soon become a reality.
