Acton Foodshare hosts Annual General Meeting

The volunteers and clients of the Acton Food Share want to thank the citizens and companies that have been so creative this past year in collecting non-perishable food items and monetary donations.

The Acton Foodshare held their Annual General Meeting (AGM) online on January 19th, 2021. The meeting was significant for the Foodshare – it was their first AGM without Arlene and Norman Humphreys in many years. Norman passed away during the summer, while Arlene had to step away from active duties due to health issues around the same time.

The Acton Foodshare is Acton’s Foodbank. It provides a place for those in need to come every Tuesday to get groceries. The Foodshare began in 1991 through the efforts of a group of concerned citizens led by Joan Waldie.

The new board includes Mike Albano as Chair, Connie Umbrello, Alex Hilson, Sid Looyenga, Frances Morris, Walter Golden, Bernice Garrett, Betty Ann Kidd, Dave Dolliver and Pam Parkin.

“There have been street collections, food drop-off challenges around town, food booths, craft sales and many other ideas from individuals who have organized events” said Albano. “Also, thanks to the many generous people who have dropped off product at our building or made monetary donations. We appreciate that our shelves are full and that we are able to buy fresh produce and meat. Thank you.”

About the Acton Foodshare

The Acton Foodshare was started in 1991 by group of concerned citizens led by Joan Waldie who passed away in November 2011. The Foodshare exists as a service to contribute to the alleviation of hunger and the prevention of malnutrition for those individuals who are temporarily in need of assistance. The foodbank is intended as a discreet and non-threatening way to access food for those in need. The Acton Foodshare is a member of the Feed Ontario and is run by a volunteer board of directors. Daily operations are run by a group of dedicated volunteers. The Annual Scout/Guide/Bethel Church groups Food Drive in April provides some of the food and the community donations of food and cash provides the rest.
