Acton Splash Pad Finally Reopens

The Superior Glove Splash Pad at Prospect Park, shut down since June 7, will remain closed due to a problem with the supply-chain along with other issues. According to Alexandra Fuller, communications director with the Town, “Delays in receiving parts means the splash pad will be out of service until further notice.”

The problems began on June 7 when the system malfunctioned. “On June 9, an initial inspection revealed a problem with the disinfection system, preventing the splash pad from operating safely,” said Fuller.

The original delay was apparently a parts and supply-chain issue with the ultra-violet component of the disinfection system. “This splash pad is stand-alone and is not connected to Region Water/Wastewater, and so the recirculation/disinfection system could not be bypassed, and it could not run without the disinfection system operating properly,” added Fuller.

The Superior Glove Splash Pad in Prospect Park is well used by the children of residents and visitors alike. It was completed in 2010 at a cost of $540,000 with local manufacturer Superior Glove donating $75,000 toward the project. The pad features a number of jets and thirteen water stations, and features a fishing motif as the theme.

“The original parts issue was resolved last week, but then some other issues arose that kept shutting the system down. Staff is working with the contractor on resolving these issues and getting the necessary parts etc. but due to the uncertainty with the supply-chain we can’t say when the splash pad will be operational. Updates will be provided as soon as we are able. We apologize for the inconvenience,” said Fuller.

Halton Hills has two other splash pads in Georgetown. One is located in Dominion Gardens Park and the other is at the Gellert Community Park on Eighth Line. Splash pads are open daily from the Saturday of Victoria Day Weekend to the Monday of Labour Day.

On Thursday July 22nd the Acton splash pad was repaired, and is now re-open for summer fun, however Halton Hills says “further tests/fixes are underway in the coming days that may cause service interruptions, but we don't expect another major closure at this time.”
