One Arrest in Milton Convenience Store Robbery Attempt

Halton Police are currently investigating an attempted armed robbery in Milton this evening. Officers are currently at two separate scenes; the robbery location near Derry and Thompson Roads and the nearby location where the suspect was arrested at a park in the Thompson Road and Laurier Avenue area. Shortly after 8pm a lone male entered a Hasty Market convenience store and attempted to rob the clerk at knifepoint. The suspect fled the store empty-handed. Responding officers found the suspect walking through a nearby park minutes later. The suspect again brandished the knife. Officers from uniform patrol, K9 and the Emergency Services Unit quickly contained the suspect. After a brief de-escalation conversation the suspect dropped the knife and he was taken into custody without incident. There were no injuries sustained by citizens, the suspect or police during this incident. There was no risk to the public. The investigation will be continued by officers of the Criminal Investigation Bureau. The name of the accused and any potential charges will not be released at this time.
