Suspect in stolen car arrested in front of day care centre.
Halton Police took down a male suspect driving a stolen BMW SUV in front of a day care centre Mill Street East last Thursday morning. According to media relations officer Sgt Ryan Anderson, “On September 2, 2021, at approximately 10:15 a.m. police observed a stolen vehicle in the area of Main Street and Mill Street East in Acton. The vehicle then parked in a lot located at 146 Mill Street East.”
A confrontation took place in front of the day care centre where the suspect was parked in a stolen BMW SUV. “Officers approached the driver/ lone occupant of the vehicle and demanded he unlock the door and exit the vehicle. The suspect did not comply with police demands and the window of the driver side was broken by police to unlock the door and remove the driver and place him under arrest. During a search police located heroin and two forms of ID that did not belong to him,” added Anderson.
A bystander at the site who wishes to remain anonymous believes that this was a planned take-down because he noticed police cars in the area earlier that morning. He told Acton UP what he saw: “A marked [police] SUV pulled in to block the front of the vehicle, and an unmarked cruiser came in to block the passenger side. The driver was asked a few times to get out of the vehicle and did not comply so an officer used his baton to smash in the driver's window, while three other officers stood by with guns drawn. The driver was removed and laid on the ground to be handcuffed and put in the back of the cruiser. About five other police cars arrived, the suspect vehicle was searched and evidence bags were filled with various items. The suspect's BMW SUV later taken away on a flatbed tow truck. Everyone was gone from the parking lot by 11 a.m.”
